FireFlow Studio — THIRD-PARTY NOTICES
FireFlow Studio incorporates or interoperates with the third-party and open-source
software listed below. Each is the property of its respective owner and is
provided under its own license. The full license texts are available from the
respective projects. FireFlow Studio is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored
by any of these projects or their owners.

SIMULATION ENGINES (invoked as separate, unmodified programs)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) and Smokeview (SMV)
Products of the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST),
with contributions from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Developed by
employees of the U.S. Federal Government in the course of their official
duties; pursuant to Title 17, Section 105 of the U.S. Code, not subject to
U.S. copyright and in the public domain in the United States.
NIST is acknowledged as the source of FDS and Smokeview. FireFlow Studio makes NO
modifications to FDS or Smokeview: it generates FDS input files, invokes the
original unmodified FDS/Smokeview executables as external programs, and reads
their output. The complete NIST notice, public-domain statement, and NIST
disclaimer are reproduced (kept intact) in the file FDS_NIST_NOTICE.txt that
accompanies FireFlow Studio, and are available in the app under Help ▸ Third-party
Notices. FDS also includes third-party components under their own licenses;
see the FDS documentation.

BUNDLED / LINKED LIBRARIES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Python — Python Software Foundation License.
- Qt for Python (PySide6) and Qt — © The Qt Company. Licensed under the GNU
Lesser General Public License v3 (LGPLv3) or a commercial Qt license. FireFlow Studio
uses PySide6 as a dynamically-linked library. See "Qt/LGPL compliance" below.
- VTK (The Visualization Toolkit) — © Kitware, Inc. BSD 3-Clause License.
- NumPy — BSD 3-Clause License.
- SciPy — BSD 3-Clause License.
- Matplotlib — Matplotlib License (BSD-style / PSF-based).
- Gmsh — © C. Geuzaine and J.-F. Remacle. Licensed under the GNU General Public
License v2 or later (GPL). Gmsh is NOT included with or distributed by FireFlow Studio.
FireFlow Studio's optional heat-transfer (FEA) add-on uses Gmsh only if you, the user,
choose to install it separately (e.g. "pip install gmsh", or from
https://gmsh.info). FireFlow Studio merely invokes an already-installed Gmsh at
runtime; it does not ship, bundle, or redistribute Gmsh or any GPL code. See
"Gmsh licensing" below.
- pypardiso — BSD 3-Clause License.
- Intel oneAPI Math Kernel Library (MKL) — © Intel Corporation, provided under
the Intel Simplified Software License / Intel end-user terms (used via
pypardiso when installed).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Qt / LGPL compliance
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PySide6/Qt is used under the LGPLv3. To comply, FireFlow Studio (a) dynamically links to
the Qt/PySide6 libraries, (b) provides this notice and a copy of the LGPLv3, and
(c) allows the user to replace the Qt/PySide6 libraries with compatible versions.
The Qt/PySide6 libraries are distributed as separate, replaceable shared
libraries. Alternatively, a commercial Qt license may be obtained from The Qt
Company.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gmsh licensing
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gmsh is distributed under the GPL. To avoid distributing GPL code, FireFlow Studio does
NOT ship or bundle Gmsh. The heat-transfer (FEA) analysis is an OPTIONAL add-on:
it is disabled unless you install Gmsh yourself, and FireFlow Studio simply calls the
Gmsh you have installed. In this arrangement no GPL code is included in or
distributed with FireFlow Studio. Gmsh remains the property of its authors under the GPL;
a commercial Gmsh license is also available from them.
